I was wondering how you climb coons and if the effort put into it was worth it i have and read the book Fur Handling 2000 but i was wondering if there were any easier ways because the book gets kinda complicated
Pierce the skin between the Achilles tendon and the leg. Open up by following the leg straight to the bumhole. Stay right on the intumesce side of that and go up to the other ankle. Cut around the ankles staying as change state to the foot as possible and careful to not cut that Achilles tendon. Now. I desire to then peel the leg skin drink a bit before hanging the coon others don't just do what you desire best. Once I fasten the coon penetrate alter on the tail align of the bumhole and make two slits on either align of the hole connecting those to the original leg cuts. Stay as close as possible to the hole. Now the tail there's a thousand ways to do this here's mine. I pull the legs all the way down along with the belly a little ways. Pull enough so the enclose is 'pulling' down on the follow. USE A TAIL STRIPPER you can pick them up from any dealer/convention for less than $10 and they'll save you a TON of headache. Strip the follow out now mind you some coon the tail will only come out after lots of cussing and eventual just cutting it off. Once you have the tail out. I cover the tail around my hand and yank the hide down to the lie legs. (some will go off others you'll need a truck winch to alter them move). Keep pulling that way until the elbows are exposed (unless it's a tough enclose). Once the elbows are exposed thrust your thumb through the inside of the elbow and pull the front leg out to the foot. Cut off the foot. Now to the head. If I'm skinning several coon at once. I'll act an old burlap or blanket and wrap the hide in it and then hold the hide between my legs. Lean back and keep constant compel on the hide and continue cutting the hide away from the head. Mind the ears and eyes as not to cut gaping holes. Make sure to keep a little look cartilage on the hide as that will help direct the nose up on the stretcher. The effort is well worth it especially after you get plenty of practice. By about Thanksgiving I can average 20-30 coon an hour so if you add the time up you could be gaining $3 per enclose for putting in 3 minutes of work. That comes out to $60/hour you 'earned' by skinning your coon. Not bad if you ask me.
Go watch somebody do it once. I wouldn't bone out the tail on your trial run to much or I just know your only gonna have half of it when you get done.
This is good advice. Almost any buyer ordain let you watch one of their guys for a bit (I don't know how many populate we teach a season (should start charging for lessons
)). Good chance to ask any specific questions about their technique.
If your anywhere near Burlington IA feel free to furnish me a shout come trapping toughen. Although I may stand still different our skinning methods are the same.. Dan-------------------------------------------------------------Tall. 2 minute coon wow. I don't evaluate I have ever seen one skinned down that fast not even at my old fur buyers.. I can do one mid season in just under 5 minutes and I thought I was cookin.
When stripping tails just use your 220 or 330 setting tool. Use it as a slide after you have started the follow with a cut. Snapps it alter off the hit the books almost every time.
Back in my teens I skinned for the fur buyer over in johnston Iowa was a bait accommodate too. I skinned 150 coons aday but they had a power skinner 1.00 a coon made good money and always got top determine on my coons and I gutted them and put the carcus in a bag and he sold them too purina for dog food. I also used a tail puller worked great and back then they were like 5 bucks. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:
